Our past prison and re-entry work

In September 2009 Mercy Corps Northwest began hosting the Re-entry Transition Center (RTC) in partnership with 7 nonprofit organizations. During its 10 years in operation, the RTC delivered critical services to over 9,000 people returning from incarceration in the Portland metro area. In November of 2017 the RTC closed, offering Mercy Corps Northwest space to innovate and launch the L.I.F.E. program.

Our work with justice-involved communities now centers on working with individuals while they are incarcerated to support a smooth re-entry into society – beginning before release.

Resources for re-entry

There are many service providers locally and nationally that can support individuals recently who are re-entering into society. We’re provided a few helpful lists below to help you easily navigate.
